The fine wine from Bertinga for everyday enjoyment. A true “Second Vin” that combines approachability and proven aging potential.

Sassi chiusi
Sassichiusi is Bertinga’s second vin.
Sassi chiusi
Its cuvée of Sangiovese and Merlot mirrors that of Bertinga’s premier cru, but Sangiovese plays a decidedly major role here.
Sassi chiusi
Despite its youthful character, Sassichiusi displays the same calm self-assurance as its elder brother.
Adine

Colour: Bright and brilliant ruby red with purple reflections
Nose: Fruity with good finesse with hints of cherry, in the foreground, accompanied by violet, blood orange, pomegranate. Subsequently, aromatic herbs, licorice and spicy notes are appreciated
Taste: Lively and juicy wine with a crunchy and persistent fruit. Dense and crunchy tannic texture. Sharp acidity that gives it flavor and balance.

The first half of the year was cooler and drier than average, creating a slight delay in the vines’ vegetation cycle compared to previous years, at a pace similar to the great 1980s vintages. The summer temperatures showed an even high level without peaks or heavy rain, and were followed by good weather in September with considerable night-day temperature variation, resulting in grapes with perfectly ripe phenolics

Colour: Intense and brilliant ruby red in colour with purple reflections
Nose: Broad and rich nose dominated by ripe red fruits with balsamic and spicy hints
Taste: Generous and enveloping sip. Dense and compact tannic texture. A pleasant persistent finish with the return of fruity notes.

2018 started with early budbreak due to above average temperatures for March and April, followed by a fairly rainy month in May. From 10th June onwards, temperatures started rising again and in the Chianti Classico area we had a good summer with little rain. Veraison began in late July and continued quite slowly in the month of August. Summer temperatures were within the norm. In September, particularly, we had a succession of sunny days with considerable day-night temperature variation, allowing the grapes in our area to achieve the expected level of phenolic and aromatic ripeness. The harvest began in mid-September and finished in mid-October.

Colour: Ruby Red, brilliant
Nose: the nose is very expressive. Small red fruit, strawberry and blakcurrant joined by the classic floreal flavors of the Sangiovese: iris and violette
Taste: long and dynamic on the palete. The fresh acidity makes it for a long finish recalling citrusy notes, green pepper and fresh spices

This was one of the driest years of the latest decades. The first months of the year were variable with some rains only at the end of February and March. Then, some late frosts occurred, but from May onwards rainfalls were very low. Chianti areas registered only few storms in late spring. Apart from these low rainfalls, temperatures too were always above the seasonal average and, in some periods, especially in July and August, reached high heat spikes. Only the first days of September some rains occurred, not generous, but sufficient to stop that heat that has been straining vines and grapes since long time. These late rains were still useful to complete the grape ripening process in the best possible way.

Colour: ruby red, brilliant reflections.
Nose: very expressive, notes of exotic fruit, vine peaches and dried apricots, floral notes of orange blossoms and pink peppercorns.
Taste: the attack is frank and dynamic, the tannic frame is fine and tight. It is soft and sapid. The finish is saline and refreshing.

The 2016 vintage profile was standard, without any health problems in vineyards. The only noteworthy event was the low rainfalls registered at the end of July when veraison was going on, but the water stress was overcome by rainfalls at the end of August and beginning of September. The balance was also supported by the heat regularity without extreme spikes in the last month, and this helped grapes ripening with no overripe fruit. The excellent summer saw low rainfalls and high temperatures in July and August, but above all the significant gap between day and night temperature allowed to expect wines of high levels of aromatic profiles and excellent acidity.
